Oprah Show - Things that may never have happeded without Oprah

In the 60's the women’s movement was in full swing. Their mantra was that men can’t be free until women are free. Without Oprah feminists might still be trying to make this happen. She provided them with a forum, that has become worldwice. Since Oprah, men on her show CRY, jump on couches, admit to being house husbands (even be house husbands without making up a job). They can admit to a softer side, and definitely are more free. Men now can even discuss being abused and be believed. Some have admitted to being abusers and made a change because of it.

Abuse of all kinds was brought out in the open. "Don’t share your dirty laundry" became obsolete. Oprah admitted to abuse, talked about how it affected her, so for a while it seemed being abused led to success. So many celebrities were coming out of the abuse closet.

Willie Jessop, spokesperson for the FLDS said yesterday, that this Texas roundup was about religion, asking where are the other religions being treated this way? Many other religions have had run ins with the law because of abuse. What about the Catholic church, without Oprah, would that have happened, would the men have had the courage and encouragement to come forward? There have been numerous churches taken to court, in the last few years. How many, both men and women have had the courage to come forward, and admit not only to being abused but to other secrets, bringing life out in the open.

Oprah made life more full and free. Helping the non acceptable become talked about and dealt with. The first Oprah shows were women, telling their stories, asking questions and Oprah answering them by having more shows that gave more insight, getting authorities on these subjects to come and talk. She has expanded this to more effective teaching. Now progressed to teaching on the internet.

Would the internet be full of blogs like this, with communities of people talking to each other, becoming supportive of each other and making friends without Oprah? Perhaps, but maybe not so honest, nor so fast. People might still be trying to hide dirty laundry.

I am writing this because I have been watching Oprah as much as I could for 25 years, I was a social worker and I have been applauding her every step of the way, sometimes even feeling motherly toward her, my oldest daughter is older than Oprah. She made social worker easier by helping others be more receptive and open. Thanks Oprah.

OPRAH SHOW, I SALUTE YOU ON HAVING SUCH A SUCCESSFUL 25 YEARS!!MAY THERE BE MANY MORE!
